Repeat Open Plant Contest

Official Rules & Overview

The Repeat Open PLAnt Challenge is a community design competition focused on creating beginner-friendly plastic antweight robots based on an easily accessible set of parts. The goal of this contest is to grow a public ecosystem of accessible, buildable, and competitive plastic antweight bot designs that can be shared freely with the combat robotics community.

Contest Timeline

  • Submissions Open: June 1, 2026

  • Submission Deadline: June 30, 2026 @ 6:00 PM CST

  • Winners Announced: July 2026

 

Design Requirements

All entries must meet the following requirements:

  • 1 lb (~454g) Plastic Antweight bot class

  • Must follow SPARC antweight rules

  • Must comply with SPARC material restrictions

  • All custom parts must be able to be 3D printed on a standard 10x10x10in printer bed

  • Must use ONLY approved Repeat Robotics BOM parts and custom 3D printed parts

  • No additional hardware or non-approved components allowed

  • Any weapon type is allowed, provided it complies with SPARC rules

  • Designs must be realistically functional and physically assemblable. Non-functional or impractical designs may receive lower scores in judging

Required Submission Materials

Each entry consists of the following files published on a publicly accessible, free platform like GrabCAD, Thingiverse, Printables, MakerWorld, GitHub, etc. These posts need to include a link to the repeat open plant bundle (https://repeat-robotics.com/products/open-plant-bundle) somewhere in the description, and must include a note that they were designed for the repeat open plant challenge. All files must be publicly accessible. No login, payment, or request approval required to view or download


  • Public STEP assembly file

  • At least one rendered image or design visualization

  • Assembly instructions in photo or video form are recommended but not required. 

  • Notes including suggested printing settings, final robot weight, parts breakdown, etc


Scoring Categories

Completeness (10 points)

Evaluates how fully realized the design is.

  • Complete robot assembly

  • Inclusion of fasteners

  • Inclusion of electronics 

  • Overall CAD completeness and clarity

Ease of Assembly (15 points)

Evaluates how easily a beginner would be able to assemble this design.

  • Any included instructions

  • Simplicity of assembly

  • Printability and manufacturability

  • Likelihood that the robot can be successfully built by an end user

Competitiveness (10 points)

Evaluates expected competitiveness in competition.

  • Expected combat effectiveness

  • Design robustness

  • Practicality in a combat environment

  • How well it would be expected to do against the average modern plant


Finalist Selection Process

  • All entries are scored by 2 judges

  • Scores are combined for initial ranking

  • The top 5 entries (including ties for 5th place) advance to final round

  • Finalists are re-scored by the full judging panel

  • Final rankings are determined from final round scores



Main Prize Pool 

Prizes will be distributed in store credit for repeat-robotics.com

  • 1st Place: $200

  • 2nd Place: $150

  • 3rd Place: $125

  • 4th Place: $100

Community Favorite Award

  • $50 Store Credit

  • Selected independently from judging results by the community on the Repeat Robotics Discord


Design Ownership & Usage Rights

By entering the contest:

  • Entrants retain ownership of their designs

  • Designs must remain publicly accessible and free for at least 12 months after contest completion

  • Repeat Robotics may share, repost, and promote submitted designs, including images, links, and renders

  • Entrants agree to promotional use of submitted materials by Repeat Robotics

  • Entries may be disqualified for rule violations, inaccessibility, or infringement of intellectual property

  • Repeat Robotics reserves the right to modify or cancel the contest if necessary

 

Submission Rules

  • Only one entry per individual is allowed

  • All submissions must be received before June 30, 2026 at 6:00 PM CST

  • Late submissions will not be accepted

  • All required materials must be publicly accessible at time of submission


Additional Rules

  • All designs must be original work or properly owned remixes

  • All entries must comply with SPARC plastic antweight rules

  • Entries must not include unsafe or non-compliant designs

  • Judges’ decisions are final
