Repeat Open PLAnt Challenge

Official Rules & Overview

The Repeat Open PLAnt Challenge is a community design competition focused on creating beginner-friendly plastic antweight robots based on an easily accessible set of parts. The goal of this contest is to grow a public ecosystem of accessible, buildable, and competitive plastic antweight bot designs that can be shared freely with the combat robotics community. We also want to make sourcing easier for beginners such that they can purchase all parts required from one store, on one page. This means that designs participating in the contest will only be accepted if they use parts from the provided parts list.

Contest Timeline

  • Submissions Open: Oct 18, 2026

  • Submission Deadline: Oct 30, 2026 @ 6:00 PM CST

  • Winners Announced: November 2026

Design Requirements:

All entries must meet the following requirements:

  • 1 lb (~454g) Plastic Antweight bot class

  • Must follow SPARC antweight rules

  • Must comply with SPARC material restrictions (Ideally PLA+)

  • Includes some feature intended for a weapon lock, or a custom 3D printed weapon lock

  • All custom parts must be able to be 3D printed on a standard 10x10x10in printer bed

  • Must use ONLY parts from the Repeat Open Plant Bundle and custom 3D printed parts

  • No additional hardware allowed

  • Any weapon type is allowed, provided it complies with SPARC rules

  • Designs must be realistically functional and physically assemblable. Non-functional or impractical designs may receive lower scores in judging

  • Robots must include all screws, electronics, motors, and other parts used in the 3D model to show that they are all able to fit.

  • Builders are suggested to actually build their robot model to ensure it is assembleable.

Required Submission Materials

Each entry consists of the following files published on a publicly accessible, free platform like GrabCAD, Thingiverse, Printables, MakerWorld, GitHub, etc. These posts need to include a link to the repeat open plant bundle (https://repeat-robotics.com/products/open-plant-bundle) somewhere in the description, and must include a note that they were designed for the repeat open plant challenge. All files must be publicly accessible and located in one space. No payment or approval requests can be required to view or download files.

Files required include:

  • Public STEP assembly file

  • At least one rendered image, design visualization, or photo of a built robot

  • Assembly instructions in photo or video form are recommended but not required.

  • Notes or 3MF file including suggested printing settings, final robot weight, parts breakdown, etc

Scoring Categories

Completeness (10 points)

Evaluates how fully realized the design is.

  • Complete robot assembly

  • Inclusion of fasteners

  • Inclusion of electronics

  • Overall CAD completeness and clarity

  • Includes some feature intended for a weapon lock

Ease of Assembly (15 points)

Evaluates how easily a beginner would be able to assemble this design.

  • Any included instructions

  • Simplicity of assembly

  • Printability and manufacturability

  • Likelihood that the robot can be successfully built by an end user

Competitiveness (10 points)

Evaluates expected competitiveness in competition.

  • Expected combat effectiveness

  • Design robustness

  • Practicality in a combat environment

  • How well it would be expected to do against the average modern plant

Finalist Selection Process

  • Entries are scored by 1 judge based on the above point structure.

  • The top 5 entries (including ties for 5th place) advance to final round.

  • Finalists are scored by multiple judges, and the scores are averaged.

  • Final rankings are determined from final round scores.
