Does your antweight suffer from a lack of drive power? Have you stripped the gearboxes on your drive motors leaving your bot stranded in the arena?
I too have suffered from these problems. That’s why I started developing the first off-the-shelf 16mm brushless gearmotors to be sold to combat robot builders.

Repeat drive mini Mk3 is the upgraded version of my game-changing brushless gearmotors, featuring a custom wound 1204 brushless motor coupled to a two stage, 28.5:1, all metal, 16mm planetary gearbox. These motors will empower you to drive circles around your competition… literally.

The wires on these motors can break if tugged directly. Adding a bit of hot glue near the entrance helps. Do not handle the motors by the wires and take care when stripping the wires.

Description

Improvements:

  • 1104 was changed to a 1204 brushless motor for more power
  • Increased kv to 3500 and increased gear ratio to 28.5:1 to keep speed consistent but increase power
  • Motor shaft was extended so you can cut to length to improve versatility
  • Output shaft is made from hardened 4130 steel, to improve lifetime and is integrated into the carrier plate, to improve durability.
  • Output shaft is retained without the use of a circlip, eliminating the main failure mode and improving the durability
  • Improved motor wire gauge and attachment method to make it more durable than ever.
  • Gearbox baseplate is integrated into the brushless motor base, removing screws and additional points of failure.

Features:

  • 1204 3500kv custom brushless motor
  • 2s-4s rated voltage
  • 16mm, 28.5:1 all metal planetary gearbox
  • 3mm or 4mm “D” extra long output shaft (can be cut to length)
  • ~23g weight with 3mm shaft (can lower the weight by cutting down the shaft and shortening the wires)
  • ~24g weight with 4mm shaft (can lower the weight by cutting down the shaft and shortening the wires)
  • 10.5mm M2 Face mount hole pattern
  • Comes with Repeat Inside sticker sheet (one per order while supplies last)
  • Comes ready for combat, just solder the motor leads to a brushless ESC and you’re on your way (Soldering iron required)

Speed

~909 rpm @ 2S (7.4V)
~1363 rpm @ 3S (11.1V)
~1817 rpm @ 4S (14.8V)

Disclaimers:
The wires on these motors can break if tugged directly. Adding a bit of hot glue near the entrance helps. Do not handle the motors by the wires and take care when stripping the wires.
These gearboxes can only accept ~2mm of face screw engagement. Using screws that are too long will result in damage.
These motors are being used in combat, where anything might happen. I am unable to accept returns for battle damaged products.

I was a firm believer in only using brushed motors in my robots until I tried this motor out. It gave me more speed and torque than any brushed motor I’ve tried. A powerful brushless motor paired with a gearbox that never fails, is the perfect set up for any style of bot. My only recommendation is buy these before they’re sold out.

The Repeat Robotics 16mm Brushless Planetary Gear Motor: Spinning My Way to Robot Domination!

    Review:

Oh boy, where do I even begin with this absolute beast of a motor? The Repeat Robotics Brushless Planetary Gear Motor is a game-changer for combat robots, and let me tell you, it’s brought out the mad scientist in me!

First things first, this motor has more torque than a dad joke marathon. I mean, seriously, this thing could spin a small planet if it wanted to. And don’t even get me started on the speed! My robot went from “molasses in January” to “Roadrunner on espresso” in no time flat. It’s like attaching a turbocharged cheetah to your bot and watching it zoom around the arena.

But let’s talk about durability. This motor can take a beating better than a heavyweight boxer. I’ve put my robot through countless rounds of merciless combat, and the Repeat Robotics motor just keeps on chugging. It’s like the Chuck Norris of motors – nothing can break it! Well, except maybe a black hole, but let’s not get too carried away.

Installation was a breeze too. Even a tech-challenged chimp like me managed to get it up and running in no time. The instructions were clear, and the motor fit perfectly into my robot like it was made for it. I felt like I was a mechanical genius, even though my last project was a failed potato cannon. Don’t ask.

And here’s the best part – this motor is quieter than a mime with laryngitis. Gone are the days of my robot sounding like a deranged chainsaw convention. Now, it glides across the arena like a stealthy ninja, catching opponents off guard with its silence before delivering the knockout blow. It’s almost unfair, really.

I also have to give a shoutout to the customer service team at Repeat Robotics. I reached out to them with a few questions, and they were incredibly helpful and friendly. They even shared some funny combat robot stories that had me laughing harder than a hyena with helium. A+ for their sense of humor!

So, if you’re looking to unleash an unstoppable force in the combat robot arena, the Repeat Robotics Brushless Planetary Gear Motor is your secret weapon. It’s powerful, durable, easy to install, and quieter than a mouse’s fart. Get ready to dominate the competition and leave them wondering, “What in the world just hit me?”

Disclaimer: No robots were harmed in the making of this review. Except mine. But that’s just part of the fun!

I’m usually on team n20 – I like cheap motors, I treat them as consumables, and my bots eat them like candy. After I got a bad batch of n20s from China that cost me several matches, I’m now building and designing around high-quality motors that don’t explode or catch fire when looked at sideways – which means Repeat.

Everything you need in an antweight brushless drive solution. More torque than before, much better phase wires, plus everything else you already love about Repeat Drive Mini. I run them in all of my antweights (except for the ones with no gearboxes).

  5. Casey Gormley

These are as close to pay-to-win as you can get, all the other reviews are correct. My only problem was that they were so strong I didn’t even realize that my drivetrain was binding up because they powered right through it. I’m a *really* broke college student so I really can’t see any reason to use a different motor for ants other than the cost (I also run the repeat drive brushed for that reason, good thing I can just upgrade those to these whenever I can afford it).

  6. Jeremy // Level 5 Robotics (verified owner)

hands-down the zippiest and most durable antweight drive solution on the market. These motors will let your antweight zoom around the arena like the pros in no time without needing to do finicky brushless conversions or custom mounting solutions.

I usually hate working on my 1lb bots, but Repeat Minis let me focus on weapon design knowing that drive is a solved system.

Very happy with how these performed in Outlier, I pushed them hard all event and they survived everything I threw at them.

  8. Eric Bultman

I have used the previous version, and mk3 is even better in so many ways. I love the larger motor with more torque, and I especially love the improved wire support. These motors will make your robot zip around the arena without breaking a sweat. These motors are fantastic!

  9. Eric Roberts

These gearboxes are already battle proven. Improvements made on the motor side just make them even better. Direct drop in for the previous MK2, just make sure there is adequate spacing around the motor section as the mk3 motor is larger with more torque/power. Slight weight penalty at about 2 grams but the gains are totally worth it. On Blheli 32 these are great, Am32 is even better. I used to use cheap Ebay brushed motors and counted them as a consumable item(often replacing 1 or more per match, which ultimately equaling out with the cost of MK2 or 3’s). If i had just bitten the bullet and bought the Repeats to begin with, i could have saved a fair amount of $$. Moral of the story…. buy once, cry once.

  10. Brian Jackson (verified owner)

These are the best motors I have ever used for antweights. Extremely durable, and more power than you could ever need. I use them in a 4-wheel belt drive system and have yet to lose a pushing battle. Pair them with AM32 ESC’s and it’s almost like cheating. I’ve even had a hub ripped off my antweight when I threw it in the arena with a beetle and the motor is still fully functional. Can’t recommend enough.
